IT delivered like a utility - IT as a Service - NJ Small Business IT ServicesMany things to many people

Ask 10 people what ITaaS (IT as a Service) is and you might get 10 different answers. Like “cloud”, it has many meanings.

For our purposes ITaaS is a way of delivering technology in much the same way as a utility delivers power. You pay a monthly fee and they provide the infrastructure to deliver it. With ITaaS you get everything you need as far as infrastructure – hardware, software, services and support – for a fixed monthly fee.

ITaaS can include cloud services such as virtual servers, backup and disaster recovery solutions, hosted email or CRM. It can also include on-site solutions like email servers, database servers, firewalls and routers. Pretty much anything IT related that can be delivered as a product or service can be included.

Things like custom application development, web design, cabling, etc are not good candidates for the ITaaS model.
